Wellness Examinations
A pet wellness exam is a veterinary care visit designed to assess and maintain an animal’s overall health. The process typically includes the following components:
1) Health History Review
A vet tech will ask you questions about your pet’s diet, behavior, exercise, bowel movements, urination, and lifestyle to identify potential concerns.
2) Physical Examination
The vet conducts a head-to-tail inspection, checking:
Eyes, ears, nose, and mouth for abnormalities
Skin, fur, and claws for parasites, lumps, or infections
Heart, lungs, and abdominal organs for irregularities
Joints, mobility, and body condition (weight/muscle tone)
3) Vital Signs Assessment
Includes measuring temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and hydration status.
4) Laboratory Tests
Common tests analyze:
Blood for heartworm, diabetes, or organ dysfunction
Stool for intestinal parasites
Urine for infections or kidney issues
5) Preventive Care
Vaccinations are updated if due
Parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworm) is discussed
Dental health is evaluated, with cleanings recommended if needed
6) Personalized Recommendations
The vet provides tailored advice on nutrition, exercise, behavior, or follow-up treatments based on findings.
